Course: Applied Systems Thinking

Course

Addressing a local problem almost never improves the capability of the entire system. When improving the effectiveness of our organisation, we can’t view its components in isolation – we need to consider how the parts fit together and how they relate to each other.

A modern leader’s most important job is to build an environment within which teams and people can excel, thrive and deliver.

A Systems Thinking perspective enables us to zoom out and expand our range of options when designing and evolving our processes, team structures, roles and policies. It arms us with a way of thinking that helps us see how everything connects and impacts other parts of the organisation, our behaviours and our effectiveness. Systems Thinking broadens our thinking, empowers us to articulate problems in new ways, and helps us to anticipate the impact of trade-offs.

During this training you will learn the core concepts of Systems Thinking as well as concrete tools and techniques to apply Systems Thinking when driving change and transformations in your organisation.

Learning Objectives

Apply a holistic perspective (System Thinking) to driving change for the benefit of the entire system.

Recognise and address the five main causes of slowness (dependencies, lack of alignment, lack of focus, and more).

Mobilise teams and their missions (Team Topology) to increase flow, team ownership and team autonomy, and to reduce dependencies.

To see the whole system, how ideas and work flow, and be able to apply Systems Thinking
in both Complex and Complicated domains.

Find and address root causes of problems, not just symptoms.
